Health coverage: HUSKY Health (Connecticut Medicaid/CHIP)
Free or low-cost pregnancy care. Income limit: Medicaid up to 263% FPL; also offers CHIP 'unborn child' (FCEP) prenatal coverage, regardless of immigration status.
Coverage continues for 12 months after birth. You may be able to get care right away while your application is processed (presumptive eligibility).
Must the father help pay for the pregnancy? Partly. A pregnant woman can start a parentage case before birth (final trial waits until after birth), and a man who files a claim of paternity acknowledges liability to contribute to her pregnancy-related medical expenses; Connecticut's general paternity judgment statute no longer has a separate 'lying-in expenses' order, and child support runs from birth.
Conn. Gen. Stat. § 46b-571(a) (formerly § 46b-172a; claim for parentage acknowledges 'contribution to the pregnancy-related medical expenses of the birth parent'); §§ 46b-560(a)(1)(B), 46b-561 (petition before birth); § 46b-569 (support judgment)
