For dads
A father's responsibility in District of Columbia
Must the father help pay for the pregnancy? No. No D.C. statute expressly makes the father pay pregnancy or birth costs; a parentage and support case can be filed once the pregnancy is four months along, and pregnancy and childbirth bills count as evidence, but support orders run from birth.
D.C. Code § 16-2342(b) (case may be filed after four months of pregnancy); § 16-2343.01(f) (pregnancy and childbirth bills admissible); § 16-916(c) (child support)
Office of the Attorney General for the District of Columbia, Child Support Services Division (CSSD): establish paternity and support
