For dads
A father's responsibility in Hawaii
Must the father help pay for the pregnancy? Partly. A parentage judgment can order a parent to pay the reasonable expenses of the pregnancy and childbirth, including medical insurance premiums (such as Med-QUEST) covering the pregnancy; a case can be filed before birth but is paused until the baby is born.
HRS § 584A-504 (L 2025, c 298); § 584A-203(d) (action before birth stayed until after birth); § 584A-506(a)

If you can't care for your baby
Safe haven: no one gets hurt, no questions asked
In Hawaii a parent can safely hand over a newborn up to 72 hours old. Where: Personnel at a hospital, fire station, police station, or emergency services provider.
24/7 Safe Haven line 1-888-510-2229Adoption is another loving option; a pregnancy center above can connect you with adoption help.
No verified center found on Kauai, Molokai or Lanai; women there can call the 24/7 Option Line (1-800-712-4357), which Pregnancy & Wellness Maui lists as its hotline. LIV's site gives no ZIP codes for its Kona and Hilo offices; one number (808) 326-1766 books both. The Maui center's own site shows Kihei, though older directories list a Wailuku address.
Don't see one near you? Call Option Line any time at 1-800-712-4357 to be connected with the nearest center.
