A father's responsibility in New Mexico
Must the father help pay for the pregnancy? Partly. A parentage order may direct the father to pay the reasonable expenses of the mother's pregnancy, birth and confinement, and the court must order child support back to the child's birth (generally up to three years). A parentage case can be filed before birth but can't be concluded until after the birth.
In New Mexico a parent can safely hand over a newborn up to 90 days old. Where: Staffed hospitals, law enforcement agencies, fire stations; Safe Haven Baby Boxes (per CYFD). You can stay anonymous. There are 8 Safe Haven Baby Boxes in the state.

No statewide pregnancy-center association with a working website was found. Coverage is good in Albuquerque/Rio Rancho, Santa Fe, Las Cruces and Hobbs. Farmington (Grace Place Family Health Center, Birthright), Clovis (Pregnancy Resource Center, 1427 Sutter Place), Taos, Ruidoso, Los Alamos and Roswell have centers listed in the Heartbeat International directory, but their own websites could not be confirmed this session, so they are left out. Women in the northwest and east of the state can call Option Line, (800) 712-4357, for the nearest center.
