For dads
A father's responsibility in South Dakota
Must the father help pay for the pregnancy? Yes. Both parents of a child born outside marriage are jointly and severally liable for the reasonable costs of the mother's pregnancy and prenatal care, labor and delivery, and postpartum recovery; since 2023 a case to make the father pay these costs can be brought during the pregnancy.
