For dads
A father's responsibility in Tennessee
Must the father help pay for the pregnancy? Partly. A court order establishing parentage must decide who pays the mother's reasonable expenses of pregnancy, confinement (birth) and recovery, assigning them to either or both parents; a parentage case can be filed before birth (proceedings may be paused until after birth).

If you can't care for your baby
Safe haven: no one gets hurt, no questions asked
In Tennessee a parent can safely hand over a newborn up to 45 days old. Where: Hospitals, birthing centers, community health clinics, walk-in clinics, 24/7-staffed fire departments and law enforcement facilities, EMS facilities, emergency communications centers, nursing homes; newborn safety devices; only the mother may relinquish. You can stay anonymous. There are 17 Safe Haven Baby Boxes in the state.
