Health coverage: Texas Medicaid for Pregnant Women and CHIP Perinatal
Free or low-cost pregnancy care. Income limit: Medicaid up to 203% FPL; prenatal coverage through the CHIP 'unborn child' (FCEP) option up to 207% FPL, regardless of immigration status.
Coverage continues for 12 months after birth. You may be able to get care right away while your application is processed (presumptive eligibility).

For dads
A father's responsibility in Texas
Must the father help pay for the pregnancy? Partly. When parentage is established, the court may order retroactive child support and, on a proper showing, order a party to pay a fair share of the mother's and baby's prenatal and postnatal health-care costs; a parentage case can be started before birth but not finished until after.

Safe haven: no one gets hurt, no questions asked
In Texas a parent can safely hand over a newborn up to 60 days old. Where: Designated emergency infant care providers: EMS providers (including fire stations), hospitals, freestanding emergency medical care facilities, participating child-placing agencies; newborn safety devices. You can stay anonymous. There are 5 Safe Haven Baby Boxes in the state.
