For dads

A father's responsibility in Utah

Must the father help pay for the pregnancy? Yes. A biological father must pay 50% of the mother's pregnancy expenses (her out-of-pocket health insurance premiums and pregnancy medical costs from conception until the pregnancy ends); if paternity is disputed, the duty starts once paternity is established.
Utah Code § 81-6-105 (originally § 78B-12-105.1, enacted by 2021 H.B. 113, Laws 2021 ch. 111, eff. May 5, 2021; renumbered by Laws 2024 ch. 366); definition of 'pregnancy expenses' in § 81-6-101(26); also § 81-5-305(2)(b) (declarant father liable for pregnancy and confinement expenses) and § 81-5-611 (parentage case may begin before birth)
